Local 16 is located at 1602 U St NW in Washington, DC. After opening in late September, 2002, both the menu and the property have undergone many significant changes. The cuisine is simple and honest. There are American flavors as well as International and Middle Eastern dishes served in three dining areas.

The restaurant business was developed by a group of individuals who wanted to provide food at an accessible price, in a space that would provide incredible comfort and warmth. Their goal was to make a restaurant for the "Local" neighborhood.

The principle idea behind Local 16 is to use local products from local suppliers. There is also an underlying theme to support local issues and communtity efforts and organizations. In both cases, Local 16 tries to meet these goals in every way possible.
